The past year has been a period of incredible growth, as Flow has been one of the fastest-growing networks in the world and the #1 choice for developers at ETHGlobal hackathons. This momentum has been reflected in a 600%+ increase in DeFi TVL, a 1000% increase in smart contracts deployed, and over 1 million new active accounts in the last 12 months.
Forte is Live on Testnet
The Forte network upgrade, which brings protocol-level composability and native automation directly to the blockchain, is now live on Flow testnet.
As Dieter Shirley showcased at Pragma, New York, Forte unlocks a new paradigm for development on Flow. It introduces two primitives: Actions and Agents.
- Flow Actions are protocol-native, composable operations that function as a "LEGO Blocks" framework for onchain finance. They allow developers to compose complex workflows in a single atomic transaction, without needing to write custom code.
- Flow Agents are onchain resources that live inside an account. They enable fully automated, self-owned workflows that can trigger from scheduled transactions or events, like an onchain cron job.
The Forte network upgrade is coming to Flow mainnet on October 22nd, with testnet live now.
With Forte now on testnet, developers can get ready to build the next generation of killer apps at the Forte Hacks hackathon. Starting on October 1st, this month-long, online event invites builders to push the boundaries of onchain innovation and compete for a share of $250,000 in bounties.
The hackathon features four core tracks:
- Best killer app on Flow: For the most promising consumer-centric application in any category (DeFi, Gaming, AI Agents, SocialFi, and more).
- Best use of Forte features: For projects that best leverage Forte's new composable DeFi primitives to build novel applications.
- Best vibe coded app: For builders that leverage vibe coding to deliver the best application and showcase of what can be done with AI.
- Best existing code: The hackathon isn’t limited to new code, and this track lets even the veteran builders have a chance to showcase their work.
Forte Hacks is supported by a range of partners, including Dune, Dapper Labs, Quicknode, Moonpay, Thirdweb, and more, with dedicated bounties available for building with these partners.
The Flow ecosystem has seen incredible activity and growth so far this year, and Forte is set to expand this even further. The future of decentralized consumer applications is being built on Flow, and the Forte Hacks hackathon is your opportunity to join the wave.
