If you need ice up at basecamp you either drive into town or hop on your sled, go up to the glacier and grab a chunk of Ice. Break off a nugget and add to your Soda, Drink or what ever you need ice in. And yes it’s clean, the ice is over 10,000 years old!
Stairway to Heaven
In AK you need to have $120 USD to have a Heli drop you off at one of the millions of peaks around Flows Tailgate Alaska Basecamp or you hop on a Snowmachine take it up about 4000 vertical feet then climb up another 500-1000 more and when I say climb I mean climb! A Bitter Sweet… but once atop the Peak you realize the near death experience was worth it!! Sometimes…
Once at the top hidden dangers exist every place around you, you really need to be on your A-Game. No effin around, Weather could come in, Avalanches could pop, dips could be Crevasses or example as we were walking to our drop in point one of our guys happened to step to the left of the trail and exposed a death hole. “TIAK” = This Is Alaska, that’s the saying around those parts, kinda like the saying “Murphy’s Law” anything that can go wrong will and can.

Coming down the mountain from another long but amazing day to TGAK Basecamp… priceless
Nights are fun in AK and you pretty much stay up late and get hungry so to suppress your late night munchies you get really creative. Here Jason Gretzinger makes himself a Smores Sandwich while Jordan coaches him, just as any kind hearted Merikan would do for his up to da north neighbor from Canada.
