Josh Schrader: Outdoor Adventure Research

Joshua Schrader was only 16 when he rode his first pair of Flow Snowboarding bindings, a pair he still rocks on the hill today from time to time. Eventually he took that passion he found snowboarding and applied that towards starting his own product review company in the action sports industry with Outdoor Adventure Research. OAR takes their passion for the outdoors and makes an effort to find the best gear, location, resorts and trails to enjoy. OAR then places their reviews online and pumps them through their social media channels. Flow Snowboarding caught up Schrader to talk about how he got started snowboarding, his first pair of Flows and how he ‘found his flow’ with OAR.

Where was the first place you went snowboarding? How old were you?

I was 14, it was on my parents property in Michigan, they owned 12 acres of land mostly hilly and my uncle had a bulldozer we used to clear some trees to make some sledding and ski runs. A good friend of mine just got a B*rt*n Air 151, and let me try it. I was hooked, got my first snowboard a few days later.
You have had the same Flow bindings since 2001 and still rock them on the hill from time to time. How did you start riding Flow?
I was 16yrs old, a sophomore in high-school, working as a life guard in summer. I was driving a VW vanagon I got for $600 and paid $350 for the Flows. The van died on me a little while later, but I still have the Flows.
Where was the most memorable place you remember taking those bindings?
I road trip I took when 18 from Michigan to Canada and along the east coast, hitting all the resorts we could in two weeks. That same trip I met Shaun Palmer at Sunday River resort in Maine.

What do you consider your home mountain to be?

I would say Keystone resort, I ride there the most and they have a good mix of everything.
You have had the same Flow bindings since 2001 and still rock them on the hill.
What is your current riding set up? Boots Board(s) Bindings?
Flow Quantum 158, Flow NX2-AT bindings and Flow Talon boots. I also have the Flow Rush ABT 156 “Breast Board Ever” edition and a Maverick ABT 164.
Is there any where you are looking forward to riding this coming winter?
We have plans of taking the crew of OAR Heliboarding in Utah this winter. Super stoked for that and scouted some great new backcountry spots here in Colorado.
Tell us a little bit about your company Outdoor Research Adventure?
OAR is a testing and review company. It’s an idea I had for a long time and finally did something with it. We offer reviews on gear, trail reviews and updates, promote different events and try to help promote the companies we do testing for on our website and social media pages.
Is there anything else you would love to say to the Flow Snowboarding supporters out there?
Tell all your friends… Keep on riding and buying Flow Snowboarding Gear. Some of the best gear I have ever had.
