We took the time to check in with O’Neill to see how the New Zealand came together, the FIS competitions she has been competing in, as well as her plans for the rest of the season, before returning home.

Here at Flow Snowboarding, we want to know… July is still considered summer… right? We are asking that because while the whole world was watching Mick Fanning punch a couple great white sharks over the weekend, it was also snowing on the Big Island of Hawaii on the summit of Mauna Kea. The summit of Mauna Kea sits at 13,796 feet. The snowfall wasn’t too substantial, as only 1.5 – 2 inches accumulated per the reports. It was just enough to close the road to the main summit.

3 Ski Resorts Still Open in North America

…and then there were only three. Yes, it’s already June but there are 3 ski resorts still open in North America and Flow Snowboarding wants to let you know where you can still take a lift to make some turns before it is officially summer. Don’t store your snowboarding gear just yet. Why not take one more road trip? Two of these resorts are rallying past their original projected closing date while the last one will remain open for a couple more weeks due to some late May powder storms.

3. Timberline Lodge, OregonOffering the longest ski season in America, Timberline Lodge is located near the top of Mt. Hood volcano. Most years, the ski season will begin around early to mid-November continuing through Labor Day, with a short closure snow permitting. In full season, Timberline Lodge boasts the Pacific Northwest’s longest vertical drop at 3,690 feet from the top of Palmer Express to the bottom of Still Creek Basin. Projected closing date for Timberline Lodge was 5/25 but their lifts are still spinning in June.

2. Whistler/Blackcomb, Canada : Within British Columbia’s glacial climate and scenic beauty resides Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. The impressive 8,171 acres of accessible terrain when winter is in full swing is serviced by 37 lifts and the longest continuous lift system on the globe, PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola, which connects skiers and riders from Whistler to Blackcomb Mountains. Projected closing date for Whistler / Blackcomb is 6/7.

1. Arapahoe Basin, Colorado : Known as the Legend, Arapahoe Basin is nestled high along Loveland Pass about 68 miles outside of Denver, Colorado. Having been in operation since 1946, the Legend offers some of the highest skier and rider accessible terrain in North America where half of the mountain sits above the timberline with skiing and snowboarding through late spring and early summer. Projected closing date for Arapahoe Basin is 6/14.

Asymbol-MikeBasich-Slider2_1024x1024

Flow Snowboarding Global Professional Mike Basich recently pieced together The Frozen Chase, his self portrait book The Frozen Chase bounces between classic action shots, fun loving lifestyle pics and unique points of view. What really makes this book special is the front seat view of a life lived on the snow and Basich’s lo-fi, organic take on photography.

“I started taking portraits for a few reasons,” explains Basich.

“I wanted my two imaginations to work together. I wanted to capture how I truly wanted to be shot, and to be the rider. I wanted to share what snowboarding was to me. It wasn’t accepted as a cool or legit thing back then.”

Flow Rituals: Mario Wanger In The Offseason

Anhang 6

Now that the snow is melting and most of the lifts have stopped spinning in the northern hemisphere, Flow Snowboarding had a chance to catch up with Mario Wanger to see what his #FlowRituals are now that summer is under way.

How was your winter season this year?

My winter 2014-15 was pretty good! The amount of snow could have been better though…

Any highlights or favorite trips or moments from this winter you want to talk about?

I went to Japan for the first time this season, over New Years. That was so insane. I have never seen so much snow and I never ridden such a fluffy pow before.

Where have you been riding the past few months as the season wound down?

I’ve been riding Sölden, Penken Park and Hintertux the last few days of the season. Riding in slushy parks is so much fun!

_web_Soelden__14-02-2014__lifestyle__sb__Roland_Haschka_QParks__007 (1)

Are the European glaciers holding up well for snow and summer snowboarding?

Yeah, it’s pretty good over here. You can actually ride till mid June, then they close till August or September. I guess in Switzerland, they are open the whole summer!

What are your plans for this summer? Are you chasing the snow or taking break?

I have to do a lot of work as a carpenter and maybe a little vacation. I gotta say, after a hard season of filming… I need a break anyway.

Anhang 11

What kind of activities do you do in the summer to stay fit and active?

I’m a striker on a soccer team, a lot of workouts in the gym, skateboarding and climbing mountains.

Do you have any kind of diet you stick to in order to stay fit?

(*smiling) Haha… no I don’t have any diet, I eat everything and anytime i want to.

Do you have a workout that you maintain in the summer months to stay fit and active?

Yup. Doing hard exercises in the sport med gym with the trainers.
